Albums of the Year No.9: Royal Republic - Weekend Man
To be fair I cannot get through a Top Ten list these days without at least one Scandinavian band on my list, and this years entry comes from Sweden - Royal Republic.
They came to my attention a little bit by accident. I decided this year to upgrade to a Premium Account on Spotify and made use of the Discover Weekly playlist. Royal Republic's Baby was one of the first tracks I heard and I loved it.
In June at Download, Royal Republic were opening the main stage on the Friday so we made sure we got a good spot on the bank and watched them in the sun (the heavens opened not long afterwards!). Very catchy, energetic and dare I say a better version of the Hives (sorry Pelle).
Weekend Man is the fourth studio album by the band. There is a mix of very catchy Hive-esq songs and classic rock tracks too. Although Baby was the first track I feel for, I have opted for When I see You Dance with Another as it is an even bigger party track!
