Albums of the Year No.5: Sparks - Hippopotamus
Tadders, my best friend, is a massive Sparks fan. In 2008 she went to 21 gigs by Sparks over the course of a month as they played one of their albums each night in chronological order.
At the time I wasn't sure what the fuss was about. Apart from "This town ain't big enough for the both of us" I couldn't name another Sparks track.
I became more interested after their collaboration with Franz Ferdinand in 2015. And then the new tracks from Hippopotamus started playing on BBC 6 Music.
The album has a definitive Sparks sound and the tracks have a quirkiness that made it a highly enjoyable album.
